I’m Published!
Imagine the scenario: there’s a package in the post on a sunny Sunday morning. A heavy brown envelope falls with a thud on the mat, and, as you pick it up in your hand and look who it’s addressed to, you feel just a bit excited. You think you know what it could be.
Opening it, three glossy magazines fall out. You don’t even need to read the title for you know it is “The National Trust Magazine”, the summer 2011 issue. On top, one sheet of blank paper with the looping scrawl of the magazine’s editor with a small congratulatory message. You pause a moment, taking it in, and then - then you think you’re either going to scream, sing or spontaneously combust. Or maybe all three.
Trembling slightly, because this is one big moment, you flip to the very last page.
And there it is…
I’m a published writer! I mean, yes, it’s on the back page, and, well, it’s not that big, and my picture is hardly the size of my thumb, but no one can take this achievement away from me!

But I wanted to tell this because, well, firstly, I’m vain and proud - good combination - but also because I owe a lot to this site. I’ve been having feedback on my writing for a while now and without it I’m not sure if I would have had the confidence to attempt sending an article in to the National Trust - to eventually be read by not just the editor but readers from across the globe.
