A Final Plea
a poem. Submitted by Alicia (

Today’s society, my friends,
Is as perfect as can be
After all, I do not lie, my friends
They do so care about me.
But I do beg of you, my friends
That when you do pass by
That ‘nobody’ off the streets, my friends
That you at least wave goodbye
To the last values of humanity
That with our heartless minds,
Offer not any sense of pity
And draw down our souls blinds.
I do also ask you, my friends
If you would so kindly listen
And not back away, my friends
If you do not wish to listen
To my final plea;
I ask for no more
Than to have my feelings heard, my friends
And to be able to live as before.
For in this day and age, I find
Not the loving or the kind,
But people who are no longer people
But robots instead.
So now, my friends, now is my plea to here,
I’ll say it once – and only once – I’ll say it loud and clear:
Let not the demons from beyond
Or the dark monsters from beneath this pond
Of unstable life
Capture me, mock me and tear my heart out with a blunt knife.
Let them not stack me
Up against closed doors, cloned walls
Or on black racks rack me
Like yet another of their guinea pigs to be monitored, checked and observed
So another experiment may do its worst.
Let them not make me a machine, an automaton,
To be controlled when I am already controlled
And to be void of all feelings and emotion.
Let them not ruin what is already ruined,
But savour the taste of the present
Let them not destroy what we have already
In their bid to be unhesitant.
Let them not make me a stone, and let them not spill me,
Otherwise,
Kill me.
