poverty

this is a poem about poverty.. Submitted by Ciara (Award 53), age 12

They line the narrow silent streets,
Watching, staring, given up on caring,
Their skinny faces scream for food,
Some of them are beyond repairing.

They seek our help, our guidance,
But you dismiss them with a waved hand:
not our problem, someone else will do it,
Who will save them, help is in demand.

They are innocently dying,
Dying, when their lives have just begun,
You say you care, but where are you?
Why don’t you help them? Why have you run?

You think you can escape and hide?
Reality is waiting for you
You have a chance to save a LIFE,
Some turn away without thinking twice .

What don’t some of us help you ask?
What can’t be explained properly?
What is this cruel situation?
This is poverty.
