WAR
Thoughts about war and what is it good for? . Submitted by Katie (

Careful where you may tread
Might meet ‘n’ shake hands with death.
The end
In the trenches
Blown to pieces/scattered for the animals to enjoy
It’s not safe here/too late to realise
Mud and lice/uncertainty/Is this my last meal?’Amen
there’s more to worry about than that/you fool/rumours of a shell attack/Obey/don’t want to be court marshaled
Choking on gas/Is it the dry food/the gas/or the waster war is/that’s choking me now/Amen
Fighting for queen and country/can not remember the last that persuaded me to join up/
Get to travel/was that it?/I’ve only seen these trenches/had to dig them myself/it was hard work/glad to have a rest/
Pick up your gun/and on your feet/orders coming/Always be ready you lazy soldier no sleeping on the job/keep standing/but you itch/and the rats want your food/food/mmm/remembering...
Not this muck/what my Ma cooked/Isn’t up to scratch for our hero's
Your the authority/sitting behind your desk/planning/plotting/getting a secure pension/retirements not gonna be so bad for you/for our hero's - well - you got them the job/filled their heads/there reckoning it’s their duty/but what are they fighting for?/let us know
Soldiers coming home/to a cold park bench/that’s far away/don’t think of that/pull yourself together/get going/on your feet/There’s work to be done/bombs to let off/A duty/marching and itching/aching/grumbling and pride - so - I’m not afraid/We are doing something/for queen and country/for dad and mum/my wife and children/
Going to fight the enemy/The enemy being the same as you or I
Same guns and helmets/uniform/keep it clean/same thoughts/all got family/just doing their duty/for their country/don’t be selfish/It’s the accents/seas separating/and it’s stupidity
Why don’t you grow up/big boys now/wasn’t you who got us into this - you were just boys and girls/growing older.doing time/going out nights/sleeping in mornings/This was not planned
It’s your duty/keep your head help high/for your pride/’Cause your a soldier/another jobtitle
It has it’s risks/gotta take it/you could get your pieces thrown around no mans land/sore/melancholy/ear drums ringing/little food and rest/what use is money?/not much thought needed/sleepless and blind/stumble across bloody ground/men don’t come home/it’s true/get kept in the memories/no new perspective/
Came home today.
Ma is making bread ‘put your feet up’ She doesn’t tell him
‘Come help with the bread’ she says
‘Help me with my homework’ Whines Michael
‘Get the chickens in’
Like he’s never been away. No feet up for him and no complaints too.
This is the normal life he has been craving for.
His breathing sparse and he walks to his Ma to help with the bread, just as was asked. No bounce in his step ‘cause of the shrapnel.
He’s missing some fingers.
But, hey, lucky to be alive. He has seen many die.
Welcome home.
He doesn’t need a parade.
Just for his weary bones and his throbbing head to stop it’s groaning so he can think straight, other wise he can’t help Michael with his homework.
Washes the dishes and makes the beds without the complaint and tears celebrities do when faced with having to choose between 2 pair of high heels.
It’s what the men when they join a thoughtless war.
The war without a middle or a an end.Getting no where.
Come on admit it: you don’t know what your doing.
Where are you going but to an early grave.
It’s not a firework spectacular
What did you expect?
Getting shot hurts.
For a lost cause we’re yet to find.
Man after man in polished boots.
To shoot. To be shot.
Don’t say you weren’t warned:war is a waster.
If you shoot a man and it’s not on a battlefield then your taken to court but if your in the trenches kill as many innocent as you can hit with a bullet, be my guest. Bullet after bullet. Great.
War isn’t an honourable sport.
Doesn’t keep the wolves at bay.
It destroys.
If war still comes about man has learnt nothing. It kills.
Men keep dying, women crying, children lost and your yawning?
All to save face.
It’s just a waste.
Lets learn peace.
